EDWARD M. GILBERT, JR.

Ed is an approved AKC judge (1969) for the Sporting Group, Hound Group, Akitas, Dobermans, Miscellaneous and Best in Show and provisional for Alaskan Malamutes, Boxers, Great Pyrenees, Samoyeds, Siberian Huskies. Ed has judged specialties and all-breed shows and conducted educational programs in the United States, Australia, Canada, Finland, Israel, Korea, New Zealand, The Republic of Korea and judged all-breeds in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He has judged numerous Rare Breed shows and National Specialties.

Since 1962 Ed has written articles for the dog press in the areas of: conformation, movement, judging, breed standards, and dog legislation. Past member of the Dog Writer's Association of America (DWAA). Since 1963 Ed has presented all-breed seminars on dog structure and movement both nationally and internationally.

Starting with the Animal Welfare Act of 1970, Ed has been involved in issues involving dogs in the area of legislation on the local, State and National level. Ed helped draft and present model dog legislation to the 1976 National Conference on Dog and Cat Control in Denver, Colorado.

Achievements, Present Activities and Board Positions:

Listed in "Who's Who in Dogs," by Conni Vanacore Co-author of "The Complete Afghan Hound", Howell Book House (out of print). Co-author of "K-9 Structure & Terminology", released by Howell Book House in December 1995 and Second Edition released by Dogfolk Enterprises in winter 2001. Co-author with my wife Pat of "K-9 Encylopedia of Terminology", in progress expected release in 2005. Lecturer with my wife Pat for "Gilbert's K-9 Structure & Movement Seminar = Enhance Your Win Capability". Winner of the Dog Writers' Association of America award. Honorable Mention - Best Dog Book of the Year 1967 for "The Complete Afghan Hound". Co-chair of the Los Angeles Dog Judges Educational Association from inception in Sept. 1978 until its' demise in Nov. 2003. The LADJEA put on three day Symposiums for 20 years. President-1994-1995 California Federation of Dog Clubs. Advisory Board member-since 1994 at University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, Center for Companion Animal Health Advisory Board Member-1973 California State Assembly Animal Care and Control Task Force Past Officer in All-breed Dog Clubs and Specialty Clubs. Ed has held office in: Orange Empire Dog Club; Afghan Hound Club of America (Past First V-P and Board Member); American Saluki Association; various regional Specialty clubs; Senior Conformation Judges Association (SCJA); American Dog Show Judges (ADSJ); California Coalition of Animal Owners (CCAO); and American Dog Owners Association (ADOA). Coeditor with wife Pat of "Gilbert's K-9 Seminar News & Review." Past Delegate to the American Kennel Club and past member of the Delegates' Health Committee and the editorial board of Perspectives, the Delegates Newsletter. Member, along with wife Pat, of the President's Council of the AKC/Canine Health Foundation.
